Barbara Nell
Mask
Jan 1, 1947 — Apr 7, 2026
On January 1, 1947, a baby girl was born to the late Johnnie Dixon and the late Everlener Wakefield Dixon. She was affectionately called "Aunt Babay" by her nieces and nephews, and in later years she became lovingly known as "Auntie B". She was baptized at an early age at Wesley Chapel Methodist Church in Henderson, Texas. Throughout her life, she served faithfully as First Lady of multiple Methodist churches pastored by her husband. Barbara was a proud graduate of Kashmere High School, Class of 1965. Where she was a very active student. She was a member of the National Honor Association (NHA), & Social Club Society Community (SSC), French Kamera Klub, Squadron and Swiss Baton Twirler. She continued her education at Texas Southern University (TSU) where she received her bachelor's degree in business administration in 1974 and went on to build a meaningful and impactful career. Over the years, Barbara worked with unwavering dedication at Safeway, where she served as a department manager for 13 years; with a Mask Insurance Agency as the office manager; at the Longview News Journal; and at Georgia Pacific Resins as a system operator. She later retired from CCA after years of committed service. She also earned professional certifications in Real Estate and Insurance, reflecting her drive to excel and expand her knowledge. On April 7, 2026, Barbara entered eternal rest. She loved her family deeply. She was the heartbeat of holidays, gatherings, and everyday moments — always present, always giving, always bringing joy. Her nieces and nephews adored her, and she cherished them in return. She was the sister who showed up, the aunt who listened, the friend who encouraged, and the loved one who made every moment feel special. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. James Mask; her father, Johnnie Dixon; her mother, Everlener Dixon; and her brother, Robert Dixon. She leaves to cherish her memory: her brother Johnny T. Dixon (Faye Ruth Dixon); her sisters Lucille Latin and Ever Lou Dixon, all of Houston, Texas; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will forever hold her close in their hearts. She also shared a special longtime friendship with Classie Lemons and Bonita Perkins, whom she had known since high school. Barbara's life was a testament to love, generosity, and quiet strength. She leaves behind a legacy woven with laughter, compassion, and the countless ways she touched the lives of those around her. Her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her
