Denise Yvonne Greenlee, affectionately known as "Niecy" or "Nee Nee", was born in
Charlottesville, Virginia on April 16, 1970 to Deborah J. Brown and Clyde V. Greenlee. She
received her "Wings" on February 24, 2023 in Houston, Texas.
Denise was briefly educated in Charlottesville, Virginia at Jackson-Via Elementary School and
later spent the majority of her education in the Hampton City School System, where she
graduated from Phoebus High School in 1988. Denise accepted Christ and was baptized while in
Basic Training in the U.S. Army. She later joined First Baptist Church in Hampton. Her passion
was advocating for and encouraging the youth she encountered in her community.
Denise cherished her family dearly, always showing love and compassion to them. Her children,
Jasmyne and Christopher were most cherished and dear to her, as well as her grandchildren,
Yeshua, Yason, Yaira, and Yasmyne. Denise was a very loving daughter and was her mother's
protector. She was also a devoted friend to Tonya Golden, Yolanda Schaffer, Tammy Spencer,
and Tamiko Barnes, and many others.
Denise valued higher education, and encouraged and guided her children in that direction. She
set her own personal goals to receive her Virginia Class A General Contractor's License,
Bachelor's Degree from St. Leo University, Master's Degree from Capella University, and
Realtor's Licenses both in Virginia and in Texas. Denise usually accomplished her goals.
To know Denise was to love her. Her compassionate heart, her loving spirit, her infectious laugh,
and her beautiful smile would brighten anyone's day. Don't forget Denise's love for her Pepsi's,
birthday cakes (from the grocery store), her bubble gum, and she could put a hurting on corn
pudding and homemade cakes.
Denise was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Patricia F. Robinson-Bell and
Reeves J. Terrell; paternal grandparents, Lucille B. Greenlee and James Garland.
Denise leaves to cherish her memory: her parents, Deborah J. Brown (and Willie) and Clyde V.
Greenlee (and Carrie); daughter, Jasmyne S. Greenlee (and Uzodinma); son, Christopher X.
McQueen; sisters, Nicole R. Miller (and Jonathan), Candi Thurston (and Robert), Karen Watson
(and Jerome); brothers, Jermaine Thurston, Kelvin Thurston; and a host of relatives and friends
We cherish the life and legacy of Ms. Greenlee
