The Life of Edna
On July 15, 1937, Earlie Dickerson and Mary (Lewis) Dickerson gave birth to a
beautiful baby girl they named her Edna (Ed).
Edna (Ed) accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Rocky Chapel
Baptist Church in Brenham Texas. Edna gained her formal education at Brenham
ISD. Edna and her siblings were part of a singing group known throughout the
Brenham area.
On June 23. 1960, Edna married the love of her life Luther Ragston Sr., with this
union 13 children were born. They settled in Hempstead, Tx to raise their family.
She was a home maker until her children got old even then she found a job she
loved to do which was cooking. In 1977, the family moved to Brenham Tx, where
she found a job as a cook. Edna, love making Sunday dinner she had a saying "if
something was left, she knew everyone got enough".
While in Brenham she rejoined Rocky Chapel Baptist Church she sang in the choir
and served on the food committee. She taught her children and grandchildren song
and hymens.
In 1984, Edna and the family moved to Somerville Tx, were she joined Second
Street Baptist Church. Edna was a faithful member until her health started failing.
Mrs. Ragston was loved by many. To know her was to love her.
Edna departed this life on January 13, 2024, at her home peacefully.
Edna is preceded in death by her parents Earlie and Mary Dickerson, husband
Luther O' Neal Ragston Sr, son Glenn Dickerson, son Luther "Butch" Ragston,
Luther O'Neal Ragston Jr, daughter Linda Rene Ragston, grandson Garry
"Wayne Jr" Ragston, grandson Eric Taylor, 3 brother Jesse Dickerson, Arthur
Dickerson and Wilbur Dickerson. 2 sister Earlie Mae Thomas and Evelyn Nunn
and Lavorn Ragston, 2 sons in law Willie Lee Jackson Jr. and Ray Charles

She is survived by 7 daughter Ruby Faye Jackson, Katheryn Bellard, Mary
Watson, Eunice Foster, Charlotte (Clifton)Benson all of Somerville TX, Sherry
(Derrick) Diggs of Brenham TX, and Marschelle (Bruce) Jones of Austin TX. sons
Darrell (Linda) Ragston Sr., Garry (Debra) Ragston Sr., both of Conroe, Texas;
Don (Tanya) Ragston Sr. of Tennessee, special daughters Patrica Blackmon of
Houston TX and Stephine Burks of Brenham TX
The life and legacy of Mrs. Edna Dickerson Ragston will be cherished.
