Joann Banca
Caliva
Mar 24, 1957 — Mar 31, 2024
On Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024, JoAnn Banca Caliva, loving wife, passed at age 67.
JoAnn was born on March 24, 1957, in Seattle, Washington to Trinidad and Cemilita Caliva. She
was college educated and world traveled in her youth. She was a devout Christian and follower
of Jesus. After moving to Houston, she assisted her cousins, Roberto and Norma David in their
ministry by leading the Praise and Worship during their Bible study meetings. She also helped
plan and organize the logistics for many of Norma's missions trips.
In early 2018, JoAnn met Ted Galanos while living at Woodridge Nursing and Rehabilitation.
They instantly became friends and began dating a few months later. They made their relationship
official on Valentine's Day 2019 and further committed by exchanging rings on August 16,
2019.
JoAnn loved Contemporary Christian music, but was often attending loud Rock concerts with
her husband and friends.
She had a creative side and loved crafting. She especially enjoyed making seasonal wreaths. Her
favorite store had to be Hobby Lobby.
Lastly, JoAnn was fearless and loved adventure. The Summer before the pandemic, Ted took her
waterskiing twice. Yes, adaptive waterskiing with the help of an organization called Texas
Adaptive Aquatics based on Lake Houston.
JoAnn was a beautiful woman, always smiling and had a great sense of humor. For someone so
small and not from here, her heart was bigger than Texas. She positively touched all she met. She
was Hopelessly Devoted to her Teddy Bear. I love you, my JoAnn, and I will be with you in
paradise someday soon.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her father, Trinidad and her mother, Cemilita. She is survived
by her husband, Ted Galanos, and cousins, Roberto and Norma David.
A celebration of life will be held on April 14, 2024, at Mike and Kristie Lazor's house from 4:00
to 8:00 pm. Contact Ted for more information.
Any donations can be sent to Ted's Texas ABLE account.
