Obituary

Lillian Lucille James, was a blessing from the day she entered God's earth on December 2, 1962 in Houston, Texas. Lillian was born to the late Mary Lee James & raised by the late Betty Morris (Madea). Although Lillian's upbringing was tough, God made sure that Lillian was covered under the blood of Jesus as she grew up to be one of the most spiritual, loving, and giving individuals that God has ever blessed us with.

Lillian James graduated from Barbara Jordan High School, located in Houston, Tx. in 1982. She was a member of various clubs such as Home Economics Cooperative Education, (HECE) & Future Homemakers of America (FHA). Lillian later decided to further her education, and at the age of 39, she graduated with her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, Texas. She didn't stop there. Lillian defeated all odds, and went back to further her education even more. In May of 2013, at the age of 50, Lillian graduated with her Masters Degree in Human Services with a concentration in Organizational Leadership. She was a true example of what perseverance truly is.

In every aspect of Lillian's life, she was always giving back to her community. For 3 years Lillian worked for the Houston Housing Authority as a Residential Specialist for Cuney, Kelly and Clayton Homes. Providing residents with social skills for families to become self-sufficient in life.  She later went on to become a Partnership Coordinator for Communities in Schools (CIS). Providing support to underprivileged students and families on school campuses in the City of Houston. Establishing partnerships with the Furniture Bank, Houston Food Bank, and The United Way for 6 years. She ended her working career as a Teacher's Aide for Aldine ISD assisting teachers with the educational needs of children in the special education department.

Lillian was a true servant of God. Lillian was a long member of Union Memorial United Methodist Church in Northeast Houston and served as a secretary, choir member, and active member of the church. In 2013, Lillian and Jalisa joined Jones Memorial United Methodist Church where she was apart of many ministries/committees including the Society of St. Stephens, Sisters of Hannah, Parking Lot Ministry, Congregational Care, Prayer and Praise ministry, Adult Choir, and chairperson of the Family Ministry. Her love for God showed through her actions in many ways, and God was always at the forefront in everything that she did.

Lillian was an all around class act. Not only was she a selfless person, she also loved to sing, dance, and congregate with friends and family. Her smile lit up a room and it is truly one that will be missed.

Lillian Lucille James has transitioned in this life leaving a legacy for all of us to remember. She will pass the torch of leadership, and giving to her daughter Jalisa James and her twin granddaughters Jayda and Janiyah James.

Preceding her in death are her mothers Mary James and Betty Morris, three sisters; Flora James, Hazel Hawkins, and Pamela Hawkins.
