Marion Cecilia
Godine
Jul 23, 1947 — Jan 20, 2026
Dr. Marion Cecilia Godine was born on July 23, 1947, to Mr. and Mrs. Adolphus Godine. From the very beginning, her life reflected purpose, grace, and an unwavering devotion to learning, service, and faith.
Marion received her early education in the Houston Independent School District, completing elementary through high school in her hometown of Houston, Texas. During her senior year at Kashmere Senior High School, she proudly performed as a member of the Marching Majorettes (Ritz). She graduated with honors in 1965, already demonstrating the excellence, discipline, and determination that would guide her throughout her life.
Following God's direction, Marion pursued higher education at Texas Southern University, earning her bachelor's degree in Mathematics. Her passion for knowledge led her to continue her studies at TSU, where she completed both her master's and doctoral degrees. For Marion, education was more than a profession, it was her calling and her ministry.
Dr. Godine devoted her life's work to shaping young minds. She served with distinction at Texas Southern University, North Forest School District, and the Marvin L. Winans Academy for Performing Arts in Detroit, Michigan, retiring as Vice Principal. Through her leadership, mentorship, and unwavering commitment, she planted seeds that will continue to flourish for generations.
A dedicated servant leader, Marion, was a proud and active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, Iota Lambda Alpha Kappa Chapter. She served in numerous roles, including Financial Secretary, Secretary, Journalist, and Chairperson of the FLS. Her greatest joy in service was her love for children and her deep desire to see them grow, thrive, and succeed.
Marion was also a devoted member of the United Methodist Church now known as Legacy UMC. She served faithfully on the church board, taught Sunday School, and worked diligently as a Lay Leader. She played an instrumental role in the development of Legacy United Methodist Church and served as a valued member of its leadership team. Her faith was unwavering and her service tireless.
Above all, Marion treasured her family. She lovingly embraced her roles as sister, aunt, mother, and grandmother. Her heart overflowed with devotion for her beloved son, Darion Godine, and her precious grandsons, Chase Godine and Avery Godine, whom she adored and continually covered in prayer.
Marion was preceded in death by her parents, Mildred Hawkins Godine and Adolphus Godine, Sr.; her siblings, Marsha Godine Bowers, Betty Joyce Jackson, Jeannie Marie Jiles, and Adolphus Godine, Jr.; and her grandparents, Ellen Richardson, Molly Godine, Beadie Godine, and James Godine, Sr.
Left to cherish her memory are her devoted son, Darion Godine(Britney); her grandsons, Chase and Avery Godine; her siblings, Maurice Ann Godine of Adelanto, California, Karl Godine and Stanley Godine, both of Houston, Texas; her uncle, James Godine II (Hiawatha); and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, Sorors, church family, and dear friends.
Dr. Marion Cecilia Godine lived a life anchored in purpose, service, and faith. Her legacy of love, wisdom, and devotion will continue to shine brightly in all who were blessed to know her.
