Ruth Ann
Williams
Aug 18, 1940 — Mar 10, 2026
Mrs. Ruth Ann Williams was born on August 18, 1940, to Lurlen Houston and Roosevelt Horton in Keatchie, Louisiana. She graduated high school in 1958 from Second Ward High School in Gloster, Louisiana. Later, she went on to pursue her cosmetology dream by graduating from Herlene Beauty School/Salon in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Ruth worked tirelessly making others look and feel their best for over 50 years. Her chair was more than a place to get your hair done—it was a place of conversation, encouragement, laughter, and love.
Besides doing hair, Ruth loved cheering on her hometown teams. Whether it was football season with the Houston (Oilers) Texans or baseball games with the Houston Astros, she enjoyed watching them play whenever she had the chance.
Ruth and Fregust Williams were united in holy matrimony on May 10, 1961. To this loving union, two daughters were born: Frida and Lisa Williams. Ruth and Fregust later relocated from Shreveport, Louisiana to Houston, Texas in the 1960s, where they built their life together and remained until his untimely passing.
Ruth accepted Christ at an early age at Faltine Baptist Church in Keatchie, Louisiana. After moving to Houston, she faithfully attended New Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church for 50 years under the leadership of Wiley L. Dunn Sr.
In her later years, Ruth became a devoted member of Bethany Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Steve Hall, where she faithfully served on the Mother's Board until God called her home to eternal rest.
Ruth was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Fregust Williams; her parents, Lurlen Houston and Roosevelt Horton; her daughter, Frida LaRuth Williams; her sister, Farrie Bell Martin; and her niece, Frida Martin.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory: her devoted daughter, Lisa Williams of Houston, Texas; her sister, Rosie B. Tolbert of Shreveport, Louisiana; her godson, Jamal (Shvonne) Williams of Houston, Texas; and her two grandsons, Victor (Quisha) Williams of Richmond, Texas and Adrian Williams of Houston, Texas.
She was blessed with ten great-grandchildren to cherish her memory: Kamryn, Amari, Xayden, Riah, Vice, Carter, Noah, Arian, Vallei Rose, and Halo.
Her sister-in-law, Juanita Sanders of Shreveport, Louisiana; two special cousins, Rachel Henderson King and Bonita Brown; and her dear best friend, Alice (Willie) Britton of Houston, Texas.
She also leaves to cherish her memory a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends, and her beloved church family, all of whom were blessed by her kindness, warmth, and the love she so freely shared.
