Tiva Yolanda
Roberson
Jan 20, 1977 — Jun 24, 2025
Tiva Yolanda Roberson, age 48, passed away on June 24, 2025.
Tiva was born on January 20, 1977, in Santa Ana, California, to the
late Pastor Van Dolan Roberson and her beloved mother, Marilyn Lillian Roberson. She
was the eldest of three children, a natural leader from a young age, and a nurturer with
a heart full of love. Tiva attended Lincoln Elementary School, Spurgeon Middle School,
and Valley High School before going on to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree from the
University of Phoenix.
Tiva committed her life to Christ at an early age, becoming a born-again Christian and
being baptized under the leadership of her father at Greater Light Missionary Baptist
Church. Tiva's love for the Lord and her passion for worship were the foundation of her
life. Her deep love for music was evident from childhood. Gifted with a powerful voice
and a remarkable talent for directing, Tiva led the church's local choir, high school choir,
and music workshops—blessing many through her ministry. Tiva used her gifts to touch
countless lives.
In 2000, Tiva answered a deeper call and was ordained as an Elder of Worship at the
Redeemer House under the leadership of Pastor Andre Chapple. Her ministry only grew
stronger with time.
In 2010, Tiva moved to Houston, Texas, where she reunited with her parents and
siblings and continued her ministry work. In 2011, she joined The Word of God Christian
Fellowship Church under the leadership of Pastor Erick Hoskin. There, Tiva served
faithfully as the coordinator for the youth music ministry, a devoted worship leader, and
a committed member of the praise team and W.O.W. (Women of the Word). She was
also active in the Frontline Ministry and the Pastor's Aid Committee. Her heart for
service and worship was evident in all she did. Wherever she went, Tiva carried the
spirit of worship, kindness, and generosity.
Tiva had a gift for planning, especially when it came to our monthly Sunday family
dinners. She made sure everything ran smoothly, thoughtfully organized who brought
what and kept us all connected. Her efforts helped strengthen the bond that held our
family together.
Tiva's talent was undeniable. When she released her single, Solid Ground, it didn't just
play it ministered, wrapping hearts in comfort and strength. For Tiva, music wasn't just
about notes and melodies—it was her form of prayer, her source of joy, and her way of
bringing healing. She had a gift. She could take any word, any story, any name, and
turn it into a song—sometimes moving, sometimes hilarious, but always amazing!
Tiva's creativity knew no bounds—especially when it came to giving people their own
unique nicknames. From Rayfor Jackson, Cleophas to Poochie Latrice, StankinTail,
Chuck-a-berry, Daddyo, and Suga, she had a playful way of naming you that made you
feel seen, loved, and thoroughly entertained. Whether it was Natdaniel, Buddy, Little Bit,
Sissy, Lizabeth, Pebbles, Motherland, or Best Friend, each name came with a story and
a smile—and there were so many more.
Tiva didn't just love music and family—she had a gift for storytelling and a camera
always close by. She could recall moments from years ago and retell them with her very
own way, full of laughter and detail. And no matter where she was, you could count on
her to capture the moment—snapping photos that turned everyday life into lasting
memories.
Some of Tiva's most joyful moments were spent singing with her musically gifted
cousins, often breaking into old church hymns that would transform the whole house
into a sanctuary of sound. Their voices blended in soul-stirring harmony—spirit-filled,
joyful, and alive. Just one note from Tiva could fill a room with warmth, laughter, and the
undeniable presence of God. But be warned—if you hit the wrong note, she'd let you
know with a side-eye look, give you your pitch, and then glide right back into her key like
the pro she was. Tiva didn't just sing—she knew music.
TivaDiva, Tivaland, TivaLynnn, Ladybug, Heavyhead, Stink, Songbird, FavoriteIt, or just
T—she was known by many names, each as bold and full of personality as she was. A
true fashionista, Tiva styled every outfit from head to toe with flair. Her sisters would
say, "Don't think you're cute!" She'd respond with a spicy and confident voice, "I am,
Boo!" When she heard the words, Love You; we all knew what she would say, "MEAN
IT!"
Tiva Yolanda Roberson was more than a daughter, sister, amazing aunt, cousin, niece,
God Mother, and friend—she was a living song of love, faith, and strength.
Tiva's voice, her laughter, and her unwavering spirit will echo in our hearts forever. Her
voice was a song, and her life was a melody of love. Though her earthly music has
ended, her spirit sings on in Heaven and in every heart she touched. We will carry her
song forever.
Tiva Yolanda Roberson leaves a void in the hearts of her mother, Marilyn Roberson; her
two sisters, Lisa Roberson and Naomi (Marcus) Small; her nephew, Jace Small; niece,
Skye Small; one Godfather, Richard "Pop" Brown Sr.; her SisterCousin, Rochelle
(Marcus) Maxie; her four God Sisters, Cheryl (Jeff) Patterson, Shonda (Jason)
Henderson, Sacreea (Travis) King, and April Adkins; one godbrother, Richard "Kimani"
Brown; one godson, Devyian Roberson; two Goddaughters, Averi Rose Richardson and
Jhene' Roberson; and her three best friends, Renee Barnett, Monique Abair, and
Necole Norris—along with a multitude of uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends who will
