Obituary

Wondwessen Admassu was born on June 10, 1949, to Admassu Hailemariam and Getenesh Chekol. He was the fifth of seven children. He loved to read, write, listen to music, and engage in spirited debates on everything from philosophy to politics. He truly was a gentleman and a scholar.

He was a son, a brother, a husband, a father, and a grandfather. He was also a friend, advisor, and confidant to many. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Yohannes Admassu, Yeheyis Admassu, and Yonas Admassu; and his nephew, Yeheyis Getachew.

He is survived by his wife, Shitaye Tesfa, and their son, Adonias Wondwessen, daughter and son-in-law, Aida and Tayo Babalola, and grandchildren—the light of his life—Aiden and Aria Babalola; his brother Ermyas Admassu, his wife Elleni Tesfaye, and their children Nebeyu, Tinbete, and Natnaelle Ermyas; his brother Daniel Admassu, his wife Tsgie Lemma, and their children Nebiyu, Tsion, Eskender, and Bitania Daniel; and his sister, Sossina Admassu, and her son, Miraf Getachew.

Wondwessen lived life on his own terms. He will be remembered for many things, but above all, for his humanity, his intellect, and his humor. Though he is no longer with us, the lessons he taught, the conversations he inspired, and the love he gave will continue to live on in the family and friends who were blessed to know him. His legacy endures in the lives he touched and in the memories we will forever cherish.
